09.05.2013 - IAAF Diamond League Press Conference - Athletes

Some of the most prestigious athletes taking part in the Doha 2013 Diamond League attended the official IAAF Diamond League Press Conference. Those attending included Qatari Olympic medallist Mutaz Barshim; multiple Olympic Champions Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica and Allyson Felix of the USA; Olympic Champion and World Record Holder David Rudisha; Javelin Throw Olympic Champion Keshorn Walcott; and Triple Jump Olympic Champion Christian Taylor.

Competitors and friends. For two of the biggest names in Pole Vault here in Doha, Bjorn Otto and Konstadinos Filippidis, sport is the arena in which they have been knowing each other many years in a friendship that spans through major events, meetings and training camps.

In the last major event in Athletics, the European Indoor Athletics in Goteborg, Otto was in second place and Filippidis in fourth. more

09.05.2013 - ‘There is no king in 1500 m, but it is good for the show’ say champions

The 1500m may not have Diamond League event status, but it can boast three “golden” racers nonetheless. 2008 Olympic Games gold medallist and reigning World Champion, Asbel Kiprop; the London 2012 bronze medalist and World Indoor Champion from last year’s event in Istanbul Abdalaati Iguider; and 2010 Commonwealth Games Champion and silver medalist in the 2011 World Championships in Daegu Silas Kiplagat: these three athletes are among others from Africa who shared the titles in major events over the last years – but the striking point is that no one has emerged to completely dominate the event.

It featured high ranking officials from the IAAF and the Qatar Athletics Federations: IAAF President, Lamine Diack; His Excellency Dahlan Al-Hamad, President of Qatar Athletics Federation; Mohammed Al-Kuwari, Secretary General of Qatar Athletics Federation and Nick Davies, IAAF Deputy Secretary General.

Allyson Felix, the IAAF female athlete of the year for 2012, is once again back in Qatar for the Diamond League. “It’s always good to be back here in Doha”, Allyson says, with her trademark sunshine smile.

It is the first time in Doha Diamond League history that an athlete of the year competes here. more

Coming in Doha for the 2013 Diamond League kick off meeting Brittney Reese the Long Jump gold medal from the London Olympic wears a cross, flower and a bird tattoo on her right arm in memory of her late grandmother.

08.05.2013 - Montsho and Ohuruogu chasing Doha 400m record win

London 2012 silver medallist and Beijing 2008 Champion Christine Ohuruogu and 2011 World Champion Amantle Montsho are the prime candidates at breaking Allyson Felix’s stranglehold on the 400m event – five wins in five attempts – but they are not yet setting sights on the prize on offer for the inaugural round of the 2013 Diamond League.
